In my childhood I have seen froth like substance on some plants. Elders used to tell the substance is the spit of Monitor Lizard and is poisonous. I heard another story narrated by an old lady. As per that story the substance is the spit of ghost ( BHOOT ). But literature says it is the egg case of some insect ( may be praying mantis ). Other day I saw this substance on a Balsam plant. In the attached image  ootheca is on Ludwigia octovavis.

Journal of experimental biology has nice paper this year's february

but I am not sure we have this same species in westBengal
does any body have data?
