The species as often gone in Indian treatments under the name C. rumphii, which does not occur in India; It has also been confused with C. circinalis and C. indica. The three can be distinguished as under:
1. C. circinalis: Seed lacking spongy endotesta; Megasporophyll 20-35 cm long,
apical spine of megasporophyll distinctly different from lateral spines, 14-34 mm long, lateral spines 10-28, pungent, 1-4 mm l ong. ovules 4-14.
2. C. indica: Seed lacking spongy endotesta; Mrgasporophyll 18 cm long, apical spine of megasporophyll not distinctly different from lateral
spines, 1–3 mm long, lateral spines less than 10, 2 mm long.
C. C. zeylanica: Seed with spongy endotesta; Megasporophyll 17-30 cm long, apical apical spine 40-60 mm long, 6-12 lateral bumps or spines less than 2 mm long; 0vules 2-4.
