Dear All,

I am looking for a plant names Boerhavia verticillata which has been described variously in literature as Commicarpus plumbagineus, Commicarpus verticillatus etc. I contacted a scientist at Forest Research Institute at Dehradun and she told me that she had collected the plant from Coimbatore and other areas in Tamil Nadu.

Tamil Nadu(Coimbatore:Bailur; Pungam Kadam, Setuwade; Thekkumalai hills, Selvapuram)

I am attaching some photos of the plant for identification purposes.

The season for this plant is about to end and it will be there but won't be visible in the field as the aerial parts normally wither out.

Can anyone please help me with the collection?

Garg Ji

I have taken these photos from Plants of the World Online (POWO), a kew botanical garden site enlisting some plants.

As per flora of Pakistan, Commicarpus stenocarpus has lilac or Pink Puple flowers whereas in the photos attached it is white (a characteristic of Commicarpus plumbagineus).  Moreover, the anthocarp is tuberculate which means that the anthocarp bears glands which are small projections notably without any stalks. but in Commicarpus plumbagineus the glands are stalked. Global plants on JSTOR explains C. stenocarpus anthocarp as having 3 shortly stalked or sub sessile subapically placed glands. whereas in case of C. plumbagineus photos attached in my mail shows almost 10 sub sessile subapically placed glands.

the two plants are different and i am looking for C. plumbagineus.

Sir, can you guide me to a person living in areas around coimbatore wher the plant has been reported?

Alok

Hi, Alok ji,
Pl. do not post images from other sites as attachments as it is a copyright violation (you have not even mentioned in your original post from where you have taken).

Thanks, paradesi ji.

Paradesi Ji

I am extremely sorry for the mistake. I overlooked the point. But my intention was not to violate the copyright.

I will take care in future.
