I think images of Liriope spicata in FOI may be of Liriope muscari (Cultivated) as per images, details and references herein) only as per the differences between the two as per
https://homeguides.sfgate.com/difference-between-liriope-muscari-liriope-spicata-42534.html (Liriope muscari's flowers are borne in whorls on slender stalks and look a bit like miniature grape hyacinths (Muscari spp.). Several varieties of liriope muscari are available, with flowers from creamy white to blue to deep lavender. Liriope spicata also produces flowers in white or blue spikes, but the plant's voluminous foliage can sometimes hide the flowers from view. The flowers line the stiff spikes in dense rows, unlike the more rotund flowers of muscari)
https://hgic.clemson.edu/factsheet/liriope/ (Liriope muscari generally grows in a clump form and will spread to about 12 to 18 inches wide. Liriope spicata spreads rapidly by underground stems (rhizomes) and will cover a wide area. Because of its rapid spread, L. spicata is not suitable for an edging but is excellent for groundcover)
