Persicaria orientalis (L.) Spach (syn: Polygonum orientale L.), growing in moist areas, sometimes grown as ornamental. Photographed from Hazuribagh garden in Srinagar on June 16, 2010.

Common names
English: Kiss-me-over-the-garden-gate, Prince's-feather, Princess-feather
Chinese: Hong liao
French: Renouée orientale
Beng: Bara pani mirch

Eaten as pot-herb; used as tonic and vulnerary. Concentrated infusion poisonous to fish. Nuts used for tubercular swellings and flatulence.

Hmm! 'Kiss-me-over-the-garden-gate' is intriguing. Somewhere in Kashmir there must be another plant called, 'I'll-kick-your-butt-across-the-field'...if the father was watching from one of the windows.

There are many many more. May be some young energetic member can compile such a list.

Nice catch these plant are grown over the garden gates over the arches hence I think is the name !!
