Location: bloomed near Vannappuram Thodupuzha Idukki Kerala INDIA

Altitude: 1500fsl

Flower date: 07APR2022, 12.15pm

Habitat: wild moisture evergreen misty sloppy canopied alpine 

Plant habit: shrub, erect branches, semi hard cylindrical stem 01.5 inche base circumference, perennial

Height: 04 feet

Leaves: alternate elongated acute simple smooth flexible glossy aromatic size upto: 16×6cm

Flower: axillary buds, 03 tepals, tomentose, diameter:12mm, purplish, non fragrant

Fruit: beans lengthy trigonus green into brown size:08x0.6cm

Seed: brown upto 10 pea shaped

I don't think so, also T. siliquosa opened flowers are downy it is matching to T. idukkiana.  And I am upload one more Thottea images shortly, with kind regards, Sam

The sepals appear to be fused up to the middle or so, hence indicative of T. idukkiana and/or T. duchartrei.

The arrangement of stamens (3+3+3+1) in your first batch of photographs looks quite unusual.

The flowers can be "both reddish purple and yellowish in T. duchartrei and T. idukkiana." How does one distinguish between T. idukkiana and T. duchartrei?

As far as I can tell, the sepals do not appear completely free up to the base. We can get a better idea with a side-view of the flower in one of Sam ji's other photographs (marked & attached herewith).

Dear All,

It seems to be a Nothospecies? closely similar to Thottea idukkiana (= T.duchartrei) but not different from it. I have seen many such intermediate forms in T.idukkiana. For the time being, I go for T.idukkiana.
