The leaves and fruits remind me of Gmelina arborea.

The Id by Anjaneyulu is correct.  This is known as Shivani tree in Karnataka.  This is an important timber yielding tree ; also  an avenue tree as seen  in Mysore.

By the by,  one of the best postings on the tree depicting the fruits. I have never seen this much fruits here.  The tree also attracts birds.

I never new, fruits are edible. I found these to be edible as per PFAF and PROTA
