Thank you very much dear Tabish for help with this name of the plant.
I wish more and more that the names of plants in north-eastern languages come to be known - and as much possible in their native scripts. Challenging but satisfying work !!
Regards.
Dinesh

Dear Dinesh,
Deadly research you did in a matter of an hour on this aspect! Now Kerosene fits well, as the plant names have similar allusions in Mizo and Malayalam. That is why I am continually amazed at your plant names research! Great job!
Tersing nambi will be written as ꯇꯦꯔꯁꯤꯡ ꯅꯝꯕꯤ (pronounced as तेरसिंग नम्बी)
By the way, I know Kapil Arambam and Chitra Ahanthem quite well.
   Cheers!

Thanks very very much dear Tabish !!

I am aware of the name ꯃꯣꯟꯁꯥꯥꯑꯣꯕꯤ ꯃꯥꯟꯕꯤ Monsaobi manbi from your site.

Your guess about tersing for kerosene is a very great help.
तेरासिन must be one of the pronunciation for the foreign word "kerosene".

Thus, I think tersing nambi is okay for putting in Meitei script ... though literal meaning may sound amusing - kerosene smelling

Mizo name for the plant is on same lines - - khawnvar-tui-rim-nam ... (khawnvar-tui = kerosene; rim-nam = smelling)
Malayalam name for the plant is മണ്ണെണ്ണച്ചെടി mannennachcheti ... (kerosene plant)

Regards.

Tersing doesn't appear to be a correct name. Manipuri people around me haven't heard of a word called tersing. Nambi means smell. One guess is that tersing may be a distortion of kerosene - old Manipuri folks pronounce it as तेरासिन. So the meaning could be, something smelling like kerosene. The plant is anyway known to have a pungent smell. One name of this plant is ꯃꯣꯟꯁꯥꯥꯑꯣꯕꯤ ꯃꯥꯟꯕꯤ Monsaobi manbi
