Hello all
 This may be of some help for I.D of Madhuka varieties.

Madhuca Hamilton ex J. F. Gmelin

 

1. Leaves lanceolate, up to 2.3 cm broad; Stamens in 2 series inside corolla----M. longifolia  var. longofolia

1. Leaves elliptic-oblong, 4-25 cm broad; Stamens in 3 series inside corolla----M. longifolia var. latifolia (M. indica)

 

M. longifolia (Koen) Mcbride var. latifolia (Roxb.) Chev., in Rev. Bos. Appl. 23: 149, 1943. M. longifolia sensu Ugemuge, Fl. Nagpur Dist 23, 1986.

Synonyms: Madhuca indica Gmelin. Syst. Nat. 2(1): 799, 1791; Almeida, Fl. Mah. 3: 167, 2001. Bassia latifolia Roxb., Cor. Pl. 20, t.19, 1795; Cooke, Fl. Pres. Bombay 2: 152, 1958 (Repr). M. latifolia (Roxb) Mcbride in Contr. Gray Herb (N.S) 3(53): 17, 1918.

Common names: Butter tree, Mova, Mohua, Moha.

this can be observed  at Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Bhawancollege Entrance at Andheri, UDCT, Lower Parel.

 

Madhuca longifolia (Koeing) McBride, Contr. Gray Herb (N.S) 3(53): 17, 1918; Almeida, Fl. Mah. 3: 167, 2001. var. longifolia

Synonyms: M. longifolia Koeing in L. Mant. Plant 2: Append.: 563, 1771.

Common names: Butter tree, Mova, Mohua, Moha.

this can be observed at Sagar Upwan, Colaba.

For all the great references you quote and the keys for differentiation with of course your study behind it.
Otherwise we are many a times just guessing around after looking at the picture.

It was somewhat confusing to me. Satishji thanking Satishji. However,
it became clear later, like two vars. of Mahua. Perhaps, the best way
to distinguish them to look at the leaves apart from other characters.

That is very informative. I just wanted to share one story in this
regard.
Three Madhuca are found in Jharkhand and there was one student who
wanted to do his phd on Madhuca indica. After he presented his
synopsis I asked how will u differentiate between the three
individuals.....guess what.....he never knew that there are more
varieties and species...this is called ignorance....and what i got in
prize....i was told not to attend synopsis seminar of anyone
else :p.....this is called irony of research in India.....
