Thanks Usha di.
Yes, the four-leaflet intrigued me, until one flickr contact helped me with the ID.
Only other four-leaflet fabaceae I know is Cynometra iripa.
I am poor with insects :)

Thanks Garg ji and Usha di.
I am sure it is Arachis pintoi.

It (Arachis pintoi) has been widely distributed in tropics ... Wikipedia.
The flower size is hardly 0.5 - 0.6 cm across.

In case of Arachis hypogaea, the flowers are almost double the size ... The flowers are 1.0 to 1.5 cm (0.4 to 0.6 in) across, and (we cannot miss the) yellowish orange with reddish veining. ... Wikipedia.

There are few pics in flickr from one of my flickr friend and contact - CPM Kutty, showing Arachis pintoi cultivation in some place in Kerala.

Regards.
Dinesh

Hi, Dinesh ji,
Is it planted or wild ? I think may be growing wild in the resort.
ILDIS is the best resource on Fabaceae as far as distribution all over the world is concerned.
Arachis pintoi is found only in Brazil (N); Sao Paulo as per ILDIS;
Has it been introduced elsewhere, it would have been properly documented in ILDIS.

Wikipedia link on Arachis hypogaea mentions so many subspecies and varieties, so there are going to be morphological variations.

Apologies Garg ji, I did not explicitly mention that it is planted.
I just wrote "... at a resort in Vythiri, Wayanad" at the top of series of posts.
In that series, I have uploaded photos of garden flora - planted in their premises as ornamental foliage or flowering plants.

I agree about ILDIS being best resource on Fabaceae.
We cannot however emphasize on having their content related to distribution being up to date.

I surfed through various good websites to read through Pinto peanut.
I gathered it is being cultivated widely in tropics as forage. Since it is said to be cultivated, it would be some or other cultivar, and not what is exactly growing wild in its native region.

Here are two sites:
2. Flowers of India (we all follow)

It is introduced (cultivated) in Australia for sure.
It is quite possible, ILDIS are yet to update their records related to this species.

Regards.
Dinesh
