Many many thanks Garg ji for pointing to the incorrect ID, as well as for the possible ID.
I checked among several species of Prunus that are distributed in Tamil Nadu.
I could not decide among these two:
  1. Prunus persica (L.) Batsch
  2. Prunus cerasoides Buch.-Ham. ex D.Don
