Which is this grass species seen everywhere in the U.P. and Bihar side ? What is it called in the local language ? Is it grown intentionally in the farms as a fodder ?

Saccharum spontaneum - locally called Kans - It grows as a weed through its long stolons and rhizomes and is found on riversides and sandy soils. It invades farms also. It is not grown as a fodder. But the young leaves and soft new rhizomes are eaten by elephants. The stems are used to make mats, thatching, etc. The grass is good habitat for birds and wild animals to take shelter, make nest, etc.

Last year I had seen same type of grass in Prayagraj region but it was pinkish in colour. Local person told me they call this 'दीनानाथ घास’ and it is used as a fodder too. I just wonder whether this is the same genus but different species. Both must be from Poaceae.
