For the last two days a video that shows white fruits being used to light match sticks.

It's fake. As no such fruit exists.

It appears to be a tree of Diospyros melanoxylon (locally known as tendu or temburni).

Video makers have smartly used white cement to wrap the terminal ends of branches, which gives an appearance like fruit.

The chemical that they have poured in glass used to light the match stick is sulfuric acid. Perhaps the same they have applied to fabricated fruits on trees.

Do not share and promote such videos!
Cheers!

The video is fake because:

From my friend 👇

1. All fruit are on the tip of the twig.
2. Have a close look while the lady is taking out the fruit from tip of twig not by plucking.
3. Fruit is deflecting when copper wire is being kept closure.
4. When fruit is put inside the glass, some sound is generating which not possible by any fruit.
5. Match stick contains an oxidizing agent such as potassium chlorate, mixed with sulfur, fillers and glass powder and fire when we provide friction from any rough surface and or on such surface coated with phosphorus, binder and glass powder.
6. As per my knowledge and believe hardly any fruit phosphorus gas which may influence to light up the match stick.
7. People involved in making video not giving any clue for which purpose they have made so much efforts.

Thanks, Rakesh ji.
That whats up group was created for celebrating completion of 15 years of eFloraofIndia, with membership only to those involved with that work.
It is generally not used now.
I think we only used it after 6 month or so (for this fake video).
So bear with us.

May be after all true. It could be Semecarpus anacardium, fruits are white when young (hence name White Biba or Safed Bhilawa) turn brown when mature.

Replies from Pankaj ji from whatsapp:
1. Just an observation. If you look closely the stalk under the fruits are channelled and the base of that stalk is segmented. Which basically means that the fruits have been attached to a petiole and the hey are not on peduncle. But yes the fruits do look like Semecarpus anacardium. So it means someone is indeed playing a trick.
2. Same goes for this plant. Semecarpus leaves I don’t remember they turn reddish but yes Kendu/Tendu does have reddish leaves in the beginning.

All seems to have been circulated deliberately, to create genuine confusion.
If any past books/ literature shows white fruits of S.anacardium, then only we can think of these as not being planted.

Why are all images out of focus? Can you post clear image showing
all aspects of the fruit / plant and fruit attachment to the plant?

Thank you.
