Please help to resolve this identity, found in IIT-M campus. This might be a remnant tree of the past flora of this area, because I have seen this tree more around Chennai.

Is this tree, Pterospermum acerifolium (L.) Willd.? or Pterospermum canescens Roxb.?

P. acerifolium because the leaves and flowers are much bigger. For P.
canescens leaves would be not peltate, not lobed and 10 cm long and
flowers would be 5 cm long. Regards, Shrikant

in Hindi it is called Kanak Champa. It does not do well in hot dry weather, but in a place  like Bhopal it gives excellent results. I have seen one majestic tree in the garden of the Vallabh Bhawan (the State Secretariat).

Actually Gamble has mentioned it is doubtfully wild in south India. but we have collected 3 species of Pterospermum (P. reticulatum, P. xylocarpum and P. acerifolium) from Kalrayan Hills of Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu. So it (P. acerifolium) also occurs in wild, though it is commonly planted in gardens.
