Hi all,

I am currently finishing my 1st year masters in ISAE. My Visa is
expiring on 25th august 2010, and I got a Recepisse till 11th October
2010. At the prefecture they said I will get the carte de sejour in
sometime. I am planning to travel to India in September, i.e. I will
have to travel with the recepisse and an expired visa in my passport.
The prefecture official said that I can travel and I will be allowed
back in France without a problem. I would like to know if anyone has
traveled before just on a recepisse and did you face any problems
while getting back from the Indian officials.

Cheers,

Sriram

Hi their,

I did the same thingfew year back and no problem. What I made sure was
to get one letter in Nepal (though it is similar in India) from
embassy of france saying it is valid.

Cheers

Hi,

You should not have any problem with your recepisse. Immigration people know everything, but you should have your carte de sejoure (expired) with that.
I went India many times like this and came back without a single question.

Hi folks,

In continuation with Sriram request, if initial French visa has
expired & if we get recepisse after 2 months. Is it possible to travel
to India before getting carte de sejoure. In this case immigrant has
not received or not having expired carte de sejoure?

Do we need to take any return visa (they call it little visa in
Germany) for travel to India during workpermit process phase?

Regards,
Prashanth

Hi Prashanth,

if  "initial french visa" is the 3 months validity visa, then u may have to verify from the prefecture as u will probably have to wait untill you receive your first carte de sejour.

if its 1 year validity, then it should be fine to travel with recepisse + expired visa.

Prashant

Hi Prashant,

Visa expired on 30th May & appointment in Prefecture is on 19th July
to submit documents for Carte de sejour . I presume they will issue
receipisse on 19th July & with that document will i be able to travel
within Europe/India?

This is not for extension of carte de sejour case as discussed in
previous mail thread.

Prashanth

I cannot give a precise answer, as ive never been through such a situation. Mostly people travel after the first renewal or with the first carte de sejour. Only the prefecture or anyone who has traveled with recepisse before getting the first carte de sejour can answer your question precisely.

I think there may be problems in travelling with just a recepisse to India as u may have to convince the indian immigration officials about your situation when u leave india.

Prashant

You only need to tell them (immigration officials in any Indian airport) "a resipisse is a bridging document between two resident permit or carte de Séjour".
