Dear Friends,

I have applied for the carte de sejour in March 09 and finally last week I received it. Since my job contract is for one year I was hoping that they would give me
for one year. But, they issued it for 6 months and that means my carte de sejour is going to expire next month. Meanwhile months back, I have booked ticket for India
and now the situation is that the carte de sejour will be expired while I am in India. Seeing this, I applied for new carte de sejour and I would receive my recepisse by next week before I going to India.

In this situation I have the following questions

 1)  Am I allowed to return to FRANCE with my old carte de sejour (which would expire while I am in India) plus the receipt (recepisse) for the new carte de sejour?

  2) Since my wife is in Germany, I have booked my flights from/to Germany. In this case even if I am allowed to come to France with recipisse, can I come via Germany?

Has anyone been to any such situation? thanks for any information

Thank you
Sreejith

dear sree

yes. you can travel to India and all EU countries with old catre DE Séjour+recipisse+passport. I have travelled last May to india and came back under similar situation.
Only, while coming out of India you have to make the Indian immigration officer understand "what recipisse is".
Well, you can even request in the prefecture to give your recipisse quickly as you want to travel to India.

all the best

Yes this situation is quite common. I have been through this although I have not stopped in germany while i came back.. it was a connecting flight. Anywayz Its only when you apply for the first residence permit, you have problems traveling with the recepisse. Now that you will have the old carte de sejour along with recipisse, it is not a problem at all to enter europe if u have been issued a residence permit by one of the states.

good luck
