Hi,

What is the limit on the amount of money one can carry in purse to India from France (via Frankfurt, if that matters :) )? And also, please let me know how many days it takes for a transfer from BNP to an Indian state bank?

Thanks!

Dear Gopal,

For the money to carry with self, check the following link: http://sites.google.com/site/indiansintoulouse/preparing-to-move/customs-and-excise-rules
or

Also to transfer from BNP to State bank it can take upto a week. Charges could vary depending on the mode of transfer.
If you do it online (max allowed: 3100 euros per day), it could be faster, but the charges are about 8 euros per transfer.

Through SBI paris maybe an option too. http://www.sbiparis.fr

Also check the section on remittances to India on http://sites.google.com/site/indiansintoulouse/toulouse-city/banking

Hope it helps

Cheers

Ankit

I'm not sure if there is any limit. You can carry cash with you in
thousands. I assume you won't be literally carrying a briefcase or
suitcase full of cash (like Hawala type and snooped by customs). You
can go to any monty transfer place in India, show your passport, ask
for a good deal on cash transaction and convert euro or USD or GBP to
Rs. You can also try onlinesbi that is much quicker, less than 2-3
days or ICICI bank. Quick way is cash and convert in India.

Dear all,

The max limit of cash u can carry (in & out: India) is 10,000 USD. You may have noticed that while filling up the form they give on the airplane while going to India.

If you dont declare that while filling up the form and u have more than 10,000 USD, you will be immediately booked under FERA (Foreign Exchange Regulation Act).

SBI is giving by far the best exchange rates if you transfer online.I suggest, if you do not want your money which you earned here to be considered as black money in India, Please exchange them in cash in SBI or any nationalized bank.
