New Pattern of
Civil Service Aptitude Test (CSAT)
Preliminary Examination
The present two papered approach of Prelims consisting of a compulsory General Studies paper and an optional subject paper (that was chosen from a list of 23 subjects) is going to change into a single paper called Civil Service Aptitude Test (CSAT). It is no more just a rumour. The format of Civil Services Preliminary Examination (Prelims) is surely going to change from the year 2011 onwards according to Hindi newspaper "Hindustan" published on July 19, 2010.
Those who have already prepared according to the present system and were hoping to appear next year will certainly receive a setback. CSAT too has its own positive notes and it will automatically eradicate the system of "scaling".
SCALING SYSTEM
Scaling was a complex process implemented by UPSC to normalize marks of subjects which were highly varying in character so as to bring them at par. After doing away with optional subject which was said to be mugger's delight and eliminating the scaling system, only those candidates who have high logical and analytical ability will be screened in. It is said that in Prelims those candidates who have easy optional paper have strategic advantage to get through. CSAT will automatically eradicate the system of "scaling".
The pattern of CSAT will be as follows -
Administrative Aptitude
Socio-psycho Aptitude
Political Sufficiency Aptitude
Global Economics Aptitude
Moral Science and Decision Making Aptitude
Regional-Cultural Aptitude.
