Hello,

I would like to drop here a few words there to introduce myself and
join your group.

I am working for a business analysis company in London (UK) and have
previously been working for Procter & Gamble.

I am very interested into your newsgroup. I am not myself a business
analyst but an account manager selling analysis (basically reports) to
retailers worldwide.

I am especially interested by India, and I would like to launch a
project of open-source reports. If some people are interested by a
such project -who knows- maybe we could work on it together...

Regards,

rajnish kumar

Hi,

Thank you for your interest in my news group. The information given on the Google group is free and anyone interested can download and use it.You are welcome to join in..

Would appreciate if due credit is given to the authors whereever content from the Group is Quoted.

I would be keen to work on the possibility of a project together. What I would need from you are some details as to how exactly we can go forward. From my experience so far a lot of my freinds in retail have downloaded content from Indian retail for their projects, interviews, tutorials etc.

One immidiate step that can help us make it a proper open source for reports would be to have a website by the same same. That way people looking for information on Indian retail will connect faster, right now it is limited to Google groups.

Looking forward to your response..

Regards

Rajnish

Hello People,

I am happy to see you are interested. And I noticed your newsgroup
because India is a fascinating country today. I have read recently the
book "The World is Flat" (Friedman) and it really highlights how it
will become more and more powerfull.

I am not myself an analyst, but a business developer. I have been
working in Retail during several years in France and now I am focused
on strategic research in Retail, working for several companies based
in London. I am aware of the retailers' demand when it's about
research, and I am sure we can do far better than the expensive and
closed research delivered today.

That's why I am working since several month on an ambitious project,
providing open-source research. The software industry is today
increasing crazily thanks to the open-source models, I am convinced we
can do the same for reseach, and I am very far in that, as I have
already a business plan ready, the future website is 90% ready and I
am actually gathering an analyst team.

That's about me, could I know a little more about you guys ? where are
you from, what is your experience... ? I would be more than happy to
go further with you in this idea !!!

All your feedbacks are welcome !!!

Romain

Dear Romain,

Thanks for your response.I read the book a few years back and I was equally excited about the opportunities that internet has created for all of us and especialy for those in the developing world.A flat world without boundaries that challenges all of us to test out limits without the constraints of time, space and resources is something great to have happened.

My name is Rajnish and I am a retail professional heading merchandising for a growing Rural Retail chain in India.I am currently working for ITC Limited which is one of India's most admired companies. Our 'echoupal' business model is widely acclaimed and awarded.I have been into merchandising for the last 11 years out of which a good 5 years with Wal Mart before coming to work for ITC.During my Wal Mart years I used to handle the ASDA account as well.

Indian Retail happened as I wanted to share my experience and insights with folks in the retailing business.Part time I am an adjunct professor with National Institute of Fashion Technology where I take classes during the weekends. Some of the Powerpoints on the Group are my lectures at the institute.I have since developed some more content. One of the most recent work I have done is benchmarking of top six retailers in the Lifestyle and Hypermarket segments for developing the merchandise mix for our upcoming larger stores in cities.

In terms of adding value I can put together a team of students who can help in doing the data collection, surveys and information and then it can be analysed and put together in the form of a report by professional analysts.I can put together a team here but I am not sure how the costs are going to work out.I agree with you that the Quality of (very)expensive research available today is actually not worth it.I have had some terrible experience myself where we spent a fortune with a leading reasearch company only to know what's obvious.

Going forward I would like to know from you a little more on your business model so I can have an idea on revenue, cost and the time frame for it break even. Are you funding it yourself or you are going to get venture capital financing?

I think it will be great if we can talk and discuss in more detail.I am very much interested in the project and in fact I had been thinking on similiar lines myself so may be it is our good luck.

You can reach me at - 0091-4040160616 after 7 PM Indian time
My cell Phone # 0091 - 9989040500

Let me know if you need any more information.

Regards

Rajnish
