Well Said Capt venkat! Saddest part is, when the same news is printed in an exagerated manner in some daily newspapers, where landlubbers have no clue of what's happening, rather to believe solely on the content what 's printed.
It is time we in the forum,," keep a stiff upper lip",, in this regard!
regards

Dear All,
We are all happy that indian navy has chased/fought and sank one pirate craft.
But imagine the condition of Indian seafarers held as hostage by the Somali pirates.
This is not second world war where warsaw conventions were hounoured and prisoners of war were treated with honour and dignity where even an attempt to esacpe was considred a right.
I am affraid that these law less pirates would illtreat Indian seafrarers as a a retaliation.
When such actions against terrorists and pirtaes are carried out we must never proclaim or celebrate. It must be treated as covet opetaion and let known only at appropriate time, when we can even intervene on land and claim release of hostages. Somalian pirates are not fighting an open war but an illegal activity by a nation in the drakages. In dina navy must have hit, sunk and killed but must have allowed the pirates to keep guessing as to what had hit them. There are old stories about one pirate vessel rigged as another and attacking the others. Under such circumstances it would be better to allow the enemy keep guessing rather than proclaim.
Regds.

Boycotting Samsung products, stopping their ships etc will have limited effect compared to the effect of media coverage. It is only the print and TV media that can make our Government sit up and act. Mrs. Capt Goyal, in my opinion, was single handedly responsible for making the Govt wake up in the Stolt Valour hijack case and ultimately send our navy to the Gulf of Aden. All our processions, Union efforts and internet exchanges had minimum effect. Public opinion is created by the TV and press and that alone shakes our politicians.

If there is any one in this group who has some contacts with NDTV or TV Today or CNN-IBN in Delhi, and knows the address of the families of our detained colleagues, please sell the story to one or all of the above TV channels. It will make the 9 O’Clock prime time news, two Indian marine officers, totally innocent, detained for a year in Korea, their families in distress, court verdict expected on 10th Dec. Animated recreation of the accident would be shown. Some reporter in Korea would interview the detained officers. This would be a big story for the TV channels. Interviews of their family members would follow. The PM and ministers will then be questioned by the media. Marine officers will be interviewed and express their anguish on prime time.  Count down to the court verdict will be a daily feature.

Our great leaders, the Korean embassy and Korea itself will then sit up and notice. Someone with the media contacts, please set the ball rolling. Believe me, it will work.

Regards

Capt Neel J Nair
