Greetings Indiana Teachers of Physics!
I want to take a moment to thank you for the wonderful work you do and wish you a happy new year. As you approach your teaching in 2026, I hope you are able to make the most of it and be the best teachers that you can be.
Additionally, there are several opportunities over the next couple months for professional development in teaching physics.
- AAPT-IN professional development day in Bloomington. On Jan 10th, 2026 from 8:00-12:30 AAPT-IN is hosting a free professional development event in Bloomington. This will include using Vernier equipment for analyzing conservation of momentum and a "Make 'n Take" modeling/inquiry lab. To register, go to www.inaapt.org
- The national AAPT meeting in Las Vegas. Teachers of physics will gather from 17-19 January to discuss innovations in physics teaching and physics education research. If you are attending and would like to meet up for an Indiana lunch/dinner, let me know.
- HASTI at Noblesville HS. From Feb 20-22, Indiana science teachers will gather at Nobelsville High School to present their innovations in science teaching at the annual Hoosier Association of Science Teachers Inc. (HASTI) meeting. There will be several physics-specific presentations including one sponsored by AAPT-IN. We will be hosting a session called "30 Demos in 60 Minutes," which is always very popular and well attended. If you would like to help with this informal session by presenting some of your favorite physics demos, please contact me at perrysb @ iu . edu.
That's all for now.
Good luck as you start your semesters.
