Dear Dr. Tyagi and Prof. Mohanty,
Thank you for your support for the I-WRF.
As per the minutes of the meeting held on 7th Jan 2012, it was already agreed that the basic frame work of the model will be WRF ARW
core with version 3.2 or above. The working groups shall develop plug
compatible new physics and diagnostic tools suitable for Indian region.
Based on the experience of all institutions working on the WRF model in India, we may decide as to which combinations of the physical parameterizations work best over the Indian region. However, as we are planning to
develop plug compatible routines, therefore, the choice of physical parameterization schemes may still be left open for the Version 1.0 of Ind-WRF. New modifications made to any
schemes in future and/or the special land surface data sets to be included for the Indian region may be called as the next Version 2, 3, etc.
Regarding the funding mechanisms to universities/ academic institutions for undertaking works related to I-WRF, the budget for this has already been allocated under
the programme on “Development of High Impact Severe Weather Warning System” in
the 12th 5-year plan. Therefore, as mentioned in the minutes of the last meeting of I-WRF, the
programme is in the process for final approval by the MoES, however, the
financial approval and fund release may takes some time.
Regards,
