This group has been hibernating for the last 2 years. I am just trying to awaken it. Perhaps the group administrator might have forgotten the password and may not even remember who the members were and whether it is possible to add/ delete members. I am just trying to revive it for a possible meting of the group in the 2nd week of August 2014 under the long awaited programme on 'Severe Weather', which has now been approved by the ministry. Please respond if you are still interested.

Regards,

Dear Dr.Someshwar Das and friends,

Thanks for your mail and happy to see the approval of 'Severe Weather program". Definitely our side we are very much interested in Severe Weather program.

In this occasion, I am happy to inform you that, we have installed & commissioned Hyperspectral Microwave Radiometer (MWR) at MET Facility, Sathish Dhawan Space Centre, SHAR  during Second Week of June 2014. MWR delivers continuous temperature and humidity profiles with radiosonde-equivalent assimilation accuracy and liquid profiles. Rapid updating thermodynamic profiles will help revolutionise upper air weather measurements, nowcasting  and forecasting

On 18th & 19th June 2014,  Shallow convection and isolated showers Observed over SHAR region. Based on  initial observations, MWR able to nowcast and observe the localised weather phenomena.

Herewith I am attaching Time cross section Thermodynamic indices plots attached for your reference.

With Best Regards,
Dr.Rajasekhar

Dear Dr. Das,
This is a good news.
Being initial promoter of this idea, C-DAC is always in for this program.
Recently we have done WRF calibration over India and we have 9km & 4km WRF hourly model output for India since 2009.
We look forward to this important inter-disciplinary program.
We will be happy to host the August meeting at C-DAC Pune.

Dear Dr. Das,
That's really good news and thanks for your initiative.
I am very keen to contribute in this programme towards improvement in tropical cyclone and thunderstorm forecast. We are working towards improvement of (1-D)Noah LSM making it suitable for Indian region, subsequently the improved LSM will be coupled to WRF model in place of existing Noah LSM. Looking forward for the August meeting.

With best regards,

'M. Mandal'
