difference between catchment area and command area ?

I would like to know the difference between catchment area and command
area ? Plz reply soon.

Dear Umesh,

A Catchment is an extent or an area of land where surface water from
rain and melting snow or ice converges to a single point, usually the
exit of the basin, where the waters join another waterbody, such as a
river, lake, reservoir, estuary, wetland, sea, or ocean. Other terms
that are used simultaneously drainage basin, catchment area, catchment
basin, drainage area, river basin, water basin and watershed.

The command area is the area around the dam, where the benefits of the
dam, such as irrigation water, electricity, etc., reach. Govt. runs
various Command Area development programmes near by almost all big &
small Dams.

Is the command area is only around dam or it may around any waterbody ?

Can we say command area is the subset of catchment area ?

No you cannot say that command area is a subset of catchment area. Command area is completely different as stated by Manish command area is the area which is going to be benefited due to a particular project.It may or may not lie in the catchment area and secondly for a particular drainage system catchment area is fixed but the command area will change depending on the scale of the project.
