Dear Friends,

As the Chairman of the Standards and ECBC Committee of RAMA and I have
taken the initiative of forming a Google Group which include
interested RAMA Members and a wider section of Professionals
comprising ISHRAE Members , Experts from Testing and Certification
Companies etc. As the Group becomes stronger and homogeneous , we also
intend to take on Board Institutional Customers , BEE Representatives
and BIS Authorities.

You are receiving this mail because you have opted to be a Member of
the Google Group "Professionals Group for Indian HVAC&R Equipment's
Standards".
The Membership currently stands at 35. You can Login to the Group and
see the names of the Members who have opted to join the Group.

To begin with I would like to inform you that we have shortlisted 3
Equipment's for which we will be working to draft the Indian
Standards. The Equipment's are:
1. Ducted Splits / Packaged Units
2. Air Handling Units
3. Chillers

A Core Group of Members had met twice to do Comparison of AHRI and
Eurovent Standards for these 3 sets of Equipment.

Eurovent Standard refers to various EN and ISO Standards. Similarly
AHRI Standards also refers to some of the ASHRAE Standards.

This Group had to purchase all these expensive Standards and go
through the same to do justice to the task.

Finally after having done the comparison we sent it to an Expert in
the field who has prior experience of working in AHRI and has exposure
also on Eurovent Certification .
The Expert opinion on Air Handling Unit certification Programs of AHRI
and Eurovent is as under.

Quote:
"The fundamental differences are:  a) the AHRI program only validates
the fan performance at one arbitrary point whereas the Eurovent
program validates the full AHU as a system at 7 different points
including 5 fan points.  B) The Eurovent program validates coil
performance in the AHU, filter performance, damper leakage, casing
leakage, thermal transmitivity, sound. etc. Full thermal and
mechanical characteristics are checked by Eurovent. C) For AHRI the
test tolerance is 5% + measurement tolerances.  For Eurovent it is 0%
+ measurement tolerance. D) AHRI tests 2 AHUs every year and Eurovent
tests 1 AHU every three years and 1 model box every 6 years. E)
Eurovent has annual onsite inspections and software checks.  With AHRI
there is no on-site checks and no software validation."
Unquote

Both RAMA and ISHRAE have jointly agreed that the Indian Standard
should not be entirely based on American Standard or European
Standard. India should have the choice to pick what is relevant and
important for us.

The validated copy of the comparison between the two Standards for AHU
is now posted on Google Document for your study and comments. The
link to this Document is pasted below...

Dear Friends,

I hope you received my earlier mail on the above subject dated 03rd
February 2011.

Acrex 2011 was keeping the Industry busy and hence it was understood
that I will not get immediate response. But it is now almost more than
two Months and it is my duty to remind you that without your inputs a
widely accepted Indian Standard for AHU cannot be made possible.

I would therefore solicit an immediate reply confirming that you have
received my mail and are you in a position to give your valuable
suggestions on which way the Indian Standard should go; AHRI way,
Eurovent way or somewhere in between.

Your inputs will be very vital for the Standards Committee.

Through a separate mail I am sending you a similar Comparison done for
Chiller.

Regards,

S.K.Sinha

I have done both the certifications. AHRI is cheaper, faster and requires less effort to get the certificate.
