I am writing to inform you of a grant program administered by Douglas County that may be able to help support an upcoming project for your organization or community group. Apologies if this repeat information!
We are now accepting applications for the 2026 Natural and Cultural Heritage Grant Program. $250,000 in funding is available this year for natural and cultural heritage projects in Douglas County, Kansas. Of the total funding available, $40,000 is specifically available to support requests of $5,000 or less (Seed Grants).
This is a broad and diverse grant program that can support a wide variety of community projects. We welcome creative thinking and are excited to support projects that have a unique and expansive perspective on what heritage conservation may look like for you, your organization, and your community.
All applicants must meet with the Heritage Coordinator prior to applying to discuss their project and ensure eligibility for the program by Friday, February 20, 2026. Grant applications will be submitted online and are due by Thursday, March 5, 2026. No registration is required, and applicants are not required to attend to be eligible to apply for a grant.
