Oops. The worst thing is, he died in front of me. Just took a U-turn to confirm if I have seen a snake, I came back and two cars passed over this poor creature. Thanks for the info though !!

Shyam Kaundinya's snake is only a Rat Snake (Ptyas mucosa). It would be great if necessary details such as location and date are mentioned with posts along with different subject lines to avoid these confusions.

Still couldn't find any pic matching to mine on the Google, if compared with the ID names given. Anybody has a spot on answer?

Some website said its a non-venomous snake.

Neeraj,

Your specimen is a certainly a Calliophis sp. There are variations. Check some of the C. nigriscens. I'm not sure whether others are posting to your query or the other picture posted of a Rat Snake.

Saurabh

Neeraj.........Saurabh is right its Striped Coral Snake. I was not able to see your pic in my mobile phone. But what Saurabh is saying its Calliophis nigriscens is right. Belly scales which are red are visible.

Hi Neeraj,
On first sight looks like Calliophis sp. Unlikely its Dumeri's Black Headed considering the later should have a longer tapering tail.Next time you photograph a dead snake please place a pen or any common object beside the snake and take atleast one pic with both the snake and the object in frame. This gives a good idea of scaling and it one can get an idea of length.
Thnks
