see the pics. I used a crossflow turbine generating 7.5hp from 160 lps of water falling from 6.5ms...fed it to a 6 stage pump using belt drives ..... and voila you had water 1 lps of water at a 150m elevation from the pump.NABARD officials have seen it and are impressed… . they have extended a 100000 usd turn key contract on it for a 50 hectare irrigation scheme using this and sprinklers …… this has been developed for the first time in India… and probably for the first time in the asia …

INTRODUCTION:
A Turbine Driven Pump or “Hydro Pump” is an automatic pumping device which utilizes a small fall of water to lift the supply flow to a much greater height.
PRINCIPLE OF TURBINE DRIVEN PUMPS
The principle is to divert the discharge of a perennial water stream and allow it to flow down by gravity through a header pipe to a turbine.The hydraulic pressure available from water fall operates the turbine to produce Mechanical power which is fed to speed increaser to change the RPM. This is then connected to a pump whose power requirement & duly discharge condition is mention to site conditions and customer requirements.
The main virtue of the Hydro Pump is that it is a mechanically very simple device. It is reliable, minimal maintenance, long operation life, no electricity, no fuel, no constant attending operator. The Turbines which have been developed are of the cross flow & turgo types for low head and medium head operation.
INSTALLATION REQUIREMENT:
The typical Hydro Pump installation, pumping water to a storage tank on a plateau at higher elevation from a water source at lower elevation is:
• The source of water is available by construction of a diversion weir across the
natural stream
• The diverted water is collected to a desilting tank located at safe place away from high flood discharge of the stream.
• A penstock from desilting tank to the Turbine located below level of desilting tank creates working head.
• The Turbine coupled with Pump is installed at desired level on firm bed.
• The water delivered from Hydo Pump is carried to storage tank at required elevation by a delivery pipe.
• The delivered discharge is stored at a storage tank for further distribution and use.
DEVELOPMENT OF HYDRO PUMP
Hydraulic Pump or Hydro Pump is not a common device available of the shelf, although reliable and cheapest/cost effective. It is a project implementation according to site situation to meet the desired output utilizing the water head available.
We, S.N.Polymers Pvt. Ltd., a S.N. Group Company, established in the year 1988, came in the field of industry with manufacture of Rigid PVC Pipes & Specials. On diversification from the business of manufacturing pipes the company became interested in development of Hydro Pump , sometime in 2005 considering feasibility of its immense use in hilly or mountainous area requiring small flow rates delivered to high heads for both irrigation and drinking water purposes. The development of Hydro Pump has been successfully completed by the engineers of the company on in - house experiments and know how gathered from foreign companies. Presently the company has standardized Hydro Pump sets ready for marketing including facilities of preparation of project report, guidance in implementation of projects, training & assistance in operation of Hydro Pumps on turnkey basis.
