Do we plan our careers?

It is a very big question the answer to this is yeas and no. Yes because we take advice from everyone - our parents, friends, internet and see in which career we can lead a comfortable life. It is not wrong.
It might be a correct way of thinking but another point is that if you decide on a career, you should certainly ask yourself - Do I have interest in that career. I can make a living out of it but can I be happy in that for rest of my life.
Money is important but money can't provide you job satisfaction. So think what you want to really become and listen to your heart first then decide. In long run money with job satisfaction is key to success in life.
