I just checked online and found that Spice Jet flight SG 305 is already sold out.

I need to know if anyone purchased this airfare yet.

If no one has booked it, we can all still fly over to Madurai together on Sunday, January 20th.

Otherwise, we might be split into 2 groups.

The alternate flight is Jet Airways flight 9W2343, leaving Chennai at 10:40am, arriving Madurai at 11:55am.  Cost is the same (approximately $50 for one-way...or $103 for round trip).

For those planning on flying on to Delhi after the class, you will most likely go thru Chennai anyway, so you might as well book round trip airfare.  If you are planning on flying back to Chennai (either on Feb 1 or Feb 6), please note that we will not be done until around 12:00pm.  Allow yourself enough time to get to the airport (about 45 minutes) plus another 45-60 minutes in advance of the flight departure to check-in.  You will need at least 1 and 1/2 hours to 2 hours lead time.  There is a flight at 3:00pm back to Chennai on Spice Jet and another around 6:30pm.  Jet Airways has a flight back to Chennai around 6:30pm, also.

We can have Azumano or Rosie's mom reserve 9 tickets and hold them.  But that means that we all need to purchase them within 24 hours of holding them.  That way, we all get on the same flight.  You need to know if you will book one-way or round trip.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW if you need help purchasing this ticket (s), I will be happy to put them on my credit card.  You can pay me back later.  No worries.  I would like for us all to be on the same flight, if possible.  I understand financial concerns, so please do not hesitate to let me know if I can help you out.  I have been there and if I can help in any way, I will be glad to do so.   I suggest that we all book this flight as soon as possible (even before you purchase your overseas flight, if you have not done that yet).
So, to answer Edie's question, we can have a travel agent hold the tickets for us, but we each pay for them individually.

Hi Jana,

I have already booked my flight to Madurai on Spice Jet. I hope this doesn't complicate things too much. Am I the only one who has done this so far?

I know Edie was looking into it, too.  I haven't heard from the rest of the team yet.  It's no problem if some are on this flight and others on an earlier flight.  We will work it out.  I should have held the tickets for everyone, but did not think it would be sold out 5 weeks in advance.
Thanks for letting me know!

Hey everyone--

I haven't purchased any tickets because I can't afford to at the moment. Please let me know what I can do to participate/be on the same flights as people from the group for flying to Madurai.

As far as meeting up, I'm free on Monday night and would love to touch base with some/all of you. It sounds like that might(?) work for Randi and Ashley Storey. Anyone else?  Hope the term wrapped up nicely for everyone.

Also, I wasn't able to get Story of India from Dilafruz's mailbox (wasn't there when checking a couple of times)--does anyone else have it or have access to it online that might be willing to share? I don't have Netflix.

Thanks for everyone's help!

Hey all!

Monday night works great for me. I cannot afford tix for two more weeks, but will pay you back Jana if you put the spice jet on your card!

Helay and I have emailed Rosie through this email about booking through Emirates through her mom, so it would be great to meet up next Monday or whenever to get more info on that.

Best,
Ashley

I have not booked yet. Do you think its a good idea for one person to book this flight for everyone? that might be one way to make sure everyone has that taken care of. Just an idea:)

Randi has already purchased her Spice Jet flight.  I'm not sure who else has already purchased, but we can set up the rest of the team to purchase these tickets (on Jet Airways). Helay and I will pay for Alaura and Ashley Schmeucker's tickets to Madurai.  I do not want Randi to fly alone.  She's already doing enough of that on this trip.  So if anyone else booked the Spice Jet flight before it sold out, I need to know.  Kudos to Randi for being on top of this flight schedule, by the way.

I'm happy to have Rosie's mom hold the tickets for the rest of the team on Jet Airways flight 9W2343, but I need to know how many to have her hold.  Azumano has already purchased my ticket (paid for by the university).  Once she sets it up, everyone will need to pay her within 24 hours. If you are going ahead and purchasing your tickets on your own and do not need us to hold a group of tickets, let me know.

So far, it looks like Alaura, Ashley Sch, Helay, and I are on the earlier flight, Jet Airways, 9W2343, arriving around 12:00pm.

Randi is on Spice Jet SG 305, arriving at 2:30pm.

Ashley Storey, Edie, Corin, and Rosie are undetermined at this point.

Please let me know as soon as possible and I will set it up so everyone gets on either the earlier flight or the flight with Randi.
Thanks everyone!

Jana

So did you book it for me and Alaura and Helay already, and we will just pay you back? Or do I need to do that now, and where do I go to buy me and Helays if we are doing it online?

Thanks!

Hi all,

I am not really following all that is going on in this chain of emails, I just joined the google group today (I intentionally took a break from electronics for a bit after the term ended, sorry for my hiatus). But from what I gather we are trying to purchase our flights from Chennai to Madurai, and we are possibly doing that together? I am fine with whatever route we need to take, just let me know what I should purchase and when.

My partner comes into town on Sunday, so Monday night is a maybe for me, just depends on the time.

Best,
Corin

I will pay for Alaura's ticket.
To book directly, go to Jet Airways India.
Book your flights (you and Helay).
Choose the outgoing flight from Chennai to Madurai on Sunday, January 20th, at 10:40am, arriving at Madurai at 11:55am.   Flight # 9W2343.

Even if you want to go up to Delhi after classes are over, you will probably be routed through Chennai.  So you can book roundtrip tickets now.  You will probably want to choose the flight which leaves Madurai on February 6, flight 9W2728 which leaves Madurai around 6:30pm on Jet Airways.

OR you can book a one-way ticket now from Chennai (MAA) to Madurai (IXM) on Jet Airways...and try to book a one-way ticket to Delhi through Spice Jet later.  Spice Jet SG 306 goes through Chennai to Delhi.  It leaves Madurai at 3:00pm and arrives in Delhi at 7:30pm.
The prices are all about the same ($50 between Chennai and Madurai,  $150 one way from Madurai to Delhi).

So you have options.  You can book through Jet Airways or Spice Jet or a combination of both, though both airlines will give a discount if you book round trip rather than one-way.  The only other flights to Madurai on Sunday, January 20th are at other times.  Preferred arrival times in Madurai are between noon and 3:00pm on Sunday.

Does that make sense?  Call me if you have questions.
Jana

Hey Corin,
I can appreciate needing a break from tech.
Here's the deal:  If you have not purchased your airfare from Chennai to Madurai yet for Sunday, January 20th, either book it ASAP or let me know if I need to get a travel agent to hold a group of tickets for us.

The Spice Jet flight SG 305 is already sold out.  At this point, it looks like Randi is the only one who got on the flight.  Luckily for us, Randi is a well-seasoned traveler. The rest of us need to book the Jet Airways flight ASAP, before it books up, too.

The closest flight to SG 305 is on Jet Airways, 9W2343.  Leaving Chennai at 10:40am.

Cost is the same (approx $50 for one-way).  Roundtrip is around $103.  Since you are going on to Ireland after the class, you will determine whether you need roundtrip airfare or one way, depending on if you are flying out of another city or out of Chennai.

Ok great! Thanks Jana! I went ahead and booked myself on that flight with Jet Airways, so I will fill that information out in the spreadsheet.
