I was wondering if there was a scripting command to start the currently selected (in the Pages panel) page and have it start a new section, specifically with Arabic (not Roman) numbering.

Seems like that could be done with one or two lines in Javascript (and as few as a dozen in Applescript ;-) ), and I hoped someone would consider cobbling it together for me.

I only ask because I’m needing to do it repeatedly (to reset footnote numbering) for dozens of chapters in several books, so it seems worth pursuing (and paying for)!

Thanks so much in advance,
Brad

Try Sections Stuff from ID-Extras. I use it regularly for resetting footnote numbering. Only $39.

Looks quite promising. Thanks muchly.

Although I understand its attractions, the fact that I’m building a chapter at a time does lend itself to having that one-line script that just lets me make the change at will, tho.

So in case anyone is (still) intrigued . . .

You can run it again and again, as it's fast and saves your settings for each document.

Okay, I got Sections Stuff based on Phil’s recommendation.

It makes a new section at the start of each chapter, based on style name. It likes to switch to Arabic numerals on the nth occurrence of that style name, so I used a kludge to get it to treat the second half title as page 1 (hung a copy of the target style on the pasteboard), and now I’m good to go.

Thanks Phil!

You're quite welcome. I'm glad to hear it is working for you. I'm very happy with a number of the scripts from ID-Extras.

The only thing that has proven a bit problematic with Sections Stuff is that it apparently uses (or otherwise clears) the Find/Change settings. I was thinking from past experiences that those could be captured and restored via script, so I’d like to find the time to make that request to ID-Extras.

(I thought I was going bonkers when my Find Agains kept failing. Realizing the two aren’t mutually exclusive, I did deduce that the script was was the cause of the clearing.)

Ariel at ID-Extras is very approachable and is interested in what he can do to make his scripts more helpful to people. I'd say go ahead and contact him.
