Is there a way to authorize the split of some footnotes ?
InDesign allows this for the entire document, but not on specifics notes.

In a layout, with lots of footnotes, if you don't authorize the split, you sometimes come out with big white spaces, too big spaces.
So I'm looking for a way to split the notes, only when needed.

Any idea ?

TIA

In theory, one could turn this off and on, by:

- enabling splitting for all footnotes
- using a paragraph style for footnotes which by default disables them
- enabling the keep options to something reasonable for the footnotes which you want to break

But I bet it wasn't tested during the beta, and doesn't work for long / complex documents.

I'm not sure that ID pays much attention to keep options in footnotes -- we always specify that at least two lines be carried forward to the following page, ID ignores that aspect of the relevant paragraph style whenever it feels inclined and happily splits two-line footnotes. On the other hand, it does seem to respect a manually-inserted instruction to keep all lines together, at least in the case of two-line notes.

Just tried it, it works fine for me, with huge footnotes.
I should have thought of this myself but voilà, I didn't.
I'll use this by default for future books.

Thanks again.

Michel
