I wanted to let you know about two weekend workshops I will be teaching in the coming weeks at University of the Arts.  There are still spaces available in both workshops, but please register soon!

The first, this coming weekend, is an introduction to HTML and CSS.  I suspect most people on these lists do not need this workshop, but perhaps you know someone who would like to get into web development or who does web design but needs an introduction to hand-coding.

The second workshop is one I'm very excited about, which I think might appeal to many in the local community-- an introduction to integrating open source web applications into your web site.  This class will be offered June 28-29 and will cover phpBB, Wordpress, osCommerce, and Drupal, along with general principles applicable to many web apps (working with the command line, finding your way around MySQL, plug-ins, themes, etc.)

Course descriptions, links to the syllabi, and links to register are below.  Questions about either class?  Let me know!

NEW! Basic HTML Weekend   Register Now!
This weekend provides a thorough walkthrough of how to hand-code a well-designed web page in HTML and CSS, and prepares students to learn more advanced techniques in the Dreamweaver weekends. Come prepared with a sketch of a web page you want to create, along with any images you'd like to use—and wind up the weekend with a finished page.

NEW! Open Source Web Applications Weekend   Register Now!
Add advanced capabilities to your website without programming—by using the work of others (that’s what open-source applications are all about). You’ll become familiar with four major categories of software (content management, e-commerce, blogging and forums) and install one example application in each category. You’ll also learn how to customize those applications to give them the look and feel of your website. Along the way, we’ll touch upon several web server and database-related technical topics. No programming (only basic HTML and CSS knowledge are required), but some of the concepts covered will be technical in nature.
Prerequisite: Web 1 or equivalent experience.
