This book has been ten years in the making (as many of you know)—traveling through nearly 15 countries, listening to Dalit communities everywhere from migrant laborers in the Gulf to tech workers in Silicon Valley and the East Coast, organizers in the UK, and the descendants of indentured laborers in Trinidad. Every conversation deepened my understanding of how caste operates across borders and generations. In addition, I explore the notions of solidarities between the Dalit and Black movements, placing a critical lens on this much-touted historical literary relationship drawing from archives in Marathwada and Washington D.C.
The book was voted History Today's Book of the Year has received largely positive reviews across the academic journals and mainstream media.
I believe there's a caste story that our present moment urgently needs us to reckon with. These neo-fascist times demand that we see with a new lens—drawing on the wisdom and practices of those who've been in this struggle for generations—the outcasted community who has shown what it takes to sustain and march on.
If you're able to grab a copy (there's a 30% discount—flyer attached!), I'd be so grateful.
