AmI missing something..a week ago when I looked at lightroom (to replace Aperture) and started the demo, there were two options LR CC w/1tb of cloud storage for $9.99 or LR Classic/PS and 20gb of cloud storage for $9.99. When I tried to sign up today the latter plan seemed to be changed to LR Classic/PS and 1tb fof cloud storage for $19.99.
"From time to time, we run tests on Adobe.com which cover a range of items, including plan options that may or may not be presented to all visitors to Adobe.com. We are currently running a number of tests in the US."
I spent literally three hours looking on Adobe's site and there was no sign of the $10 plan. Either they brought it back due to a hiccup, or they were intentionally trying to force me into the plan I didn't want..not a happy new customer.
It appears that you are right. The only single app that seems to be available is Lightroom CC, the cloud-based Lightroom and it includes 1 TB of cloud storage. The only way to get Lightroom Classic CC is to package it with Photoshop and that cloud-based Lightroom in the $20/month plan. I don't work for Adobe and don't keep up on the marketing. But in looking at the website tonight, that seems to be the new pricing strategy that I see.
Your link takes you to the page I show in post #1 where the 9.99 plan is still available. Getting rid of the 9.99 plan would be a DUMB idea if Adobe wants to keep market share. I have convinced several people to sign up to the 9.99 CC Photography Plan but if it was 19.99 I wouldn't even bother to mention it as a recommendation. I would probably even go to On 1 and Affinity Photo which I have played around with.
I'm also in the UK. In that screenshot referred to, below the price, there are some menus where you can choose how much storage you want. Currently, in the screenshot, 1TB is shown as the selected option: but that is clearly not meant to be taken as the only option available. When you change that to 20GB, the price adjusts accordingly - to 9.89/month, as one would IMO expect.
Or, if you click the blue link lower down ("Compare photography plans") this takes you to a different page which lists out the packages separately and shows you a table of what you get, for how much cost, under each.
And rather than "10/month plan is gone", it would be better to write: "is no longer the initially presented default option - in a perfectly standard on-screen menu which will easily bring the alternative options into view".
Agreed. The language assumes the worst. The $9.99/mo. PS + LR Photography plan is not now (and has never been) phased out or impossible to purchase. I wrote this back above on this thread on April 4th, and it's posted again here yesterday:
Nevertheless, there have been some confusing and unhelpful changes/tests being conducted recently by Adobe that are not helping the customer perception of this... And too often these days, perception is reality.
But the original $9.99 plan is still accessible in some cases. For example, the links in this post will access Adobe's lower-cost 20 GB option with Lightroom, LR Classic, and Photoshop, regardless of the browser used:
WTF Adobe. I'm an avid amateur that's been using Lightroom as long as I can remember. Currently cataloging around 200K images. I already hate this subscription crap and now your looking at doubling the monthly cost? Really? I'm out if this happens. No way in hell I'm spending $20 plus per month for a piece of software.
As a casual amateur user, spending $250 a year for the "privilege" of using Adobe products to maintain a collection of maybe 50k family photos is entirely out of the question. For something I only use maybe once or twice a month, I can barely justify $120/yr as it is! No thanks. I'll gladly use a reasonably priced competitive product and accept the compromises.
And the quality of the software I get for my $10/mo now leaves much to be desired. The only version of 32-bit Photoshop I can get (req'd for my Canon 9950F scanner driver compatibility) is some completely unstable, bug-ridden "x.0" mess of a release that can't even be patched or updated.
There is apparently no longer a $9.99 plan that includes Photoshop or the desktop version of Lightroom. I was checking on the Adobe site to see if I could get a trial version of the subscription. Well, you can, but it said it is $19.99 per month after a 7 day trial. I thought it must have defaulted to the Lightroom Classic, CC, and Photoshop plus 1TB of storage version. So I started clicking options and there isn't a version with the lower level of storage for $9.99. At least not that I can find. Eventually I came across the info page I linked above. You can get a Lightroom CC only plan with 1TB of storage for $9.99, but if you want Photoshop it goes up to $19.99. Still with 1TB of storage. Also, I'm not sure what the difference is between Lightroom CC and Lightroom Classic, but Classic only comes with the $19.99 plan.
I'm still using Lightroom 6 with very rare excursions into Photoshop CS6. Anyone have any thoughts on whether or not the latest version of Photoshop Elements would give me enough of the capabilities I already have with the familiar interface? Has anyone switched from Lightroom/Photoshop to Elements and been happy with the transition? I used to use Elements but switched from version 9 when Adobe offered an amazing Lightroom/Photoshop bundle (coincidentally right before they announced the Creative Cloud...cynical? Moi?). I suppose I could go back if necessary. Or maybe I'll give ON1 Photo Raw 2019 a try since I can get an upgrade for less than $70.
Thanks. I'll have to check it out. Maybe I'll find a few good options and download free trials, if available. Then I will see what I can do with a few of my photos that were challenging in Lightroom but I ended up happy with the results. If I can get similar results using a program with a better pricing structure (i.e. not a subscription) I could go that way.
It's just kind of a bummer since I have just been doing some online tutorials for Lightroom and reviewing some Creative Live courses I have for Lightroom to learn more. After spending all that time and having several thousand photos in my LR catalog I hate to abandon it. I would possibly even consider going with the new $9.99 plan if it had LR Classic, but not for the mobile version. But I have been seeing good reviews of Affinity so it's worth trying the free trial version anyway.
Kind of depends on what you use in Lightroom. If the Develop module is most important, you have lots and lots of choices (Capture One, ON1 Raw, Luminar, etc.). If you need to replace the Library module of Lightroom, that's harder. I'm not familiar with Elements but I assume its Organizer is not as powerful.
Affinity Photo is a great replacement for Photoshop for all but the highest of high-end users. Affinity has some raw develop tools, so it can also replace the Lightroom Develop module. But Affinity has no bulk image management/organization tools that I know of, and their DAM (Digital Asset Manager) that they said they were "working on" has been missing in action for literally years now.
I've been reading this thread with interest and concern, because I subscribe to the Photographer plan as well, but my last bill just a few days ago was still only $10.99 - but I use ONLY LR and PS and Bridge - nothing else despite Adobe's desperate entreaties to get me to try other software programs. I think we can guess why, don't we??
I bought the 150 stand alone Lightroom awhile back (after a ton of digging and eventually a support ticket to adobe).. I can't a relationship with adobe after this version is obsolete for me. I refuse to pay a monthly subscription.
I read and re-read the items involved in the Photography Plan ($9.99) and understand that it includes Lightroom CC and Photoshop CC. Then I read the description of the Single App plan ($19.99) which is, as it states, a single app, like Photoshop. That sounds like I'm getting less for twice as much $$. Unless the big difference is that you get all the updates in the $19.99 plan?
I'm finally ready to give up on Photoshop CS6, which I bought just before CC came out (at great cost). Since I got a high-res, 4K laptop which just does NOT like CS6 (menus are so small you can't read them and there's nothing being done about it by Adobe). I certainly can't ask Adobe if there's a plan since there doesn't seem to be a way to reach a real person Adobe agent to ask.
Boy, are they ever misleading when they describe the plans! That's about what I thought the difference might be, but since I couldn't get a trial for the Photography Plan, it was hard to tell (Adobe marketing 101). I don't care about cloud storage (20GB is NOTHING when you're editing photos!).
HI John. I'll look into it. I suspect it may have been obsoleted since the Photoshop plan is listed there and no longer available. I'll see if there is a new link comparing just Photoshop and Photography or not. Thanks for letting me know about the 404 message.
Why is the creative cloud so expensive? If a 15-year-old guy without rich parents wants to be creative with photo's and video's and has just enough money for a cheap camera, how is he supposed to if a creative cloud is hundreds of dollars? There are people more than just professionals and rich guys! What can normal people do?
