Hello all,
Let's talk about and catch up on the plan for the first Inclusive Naming Word Lists v1.0 release.
tl:dr
- There is a v1.0 release about to happen
- The Language WS opted to bootstrap it ourselves for timing reasons, but e.g. promotional and more technical help are welcome
- Links and background below
- Quotes are requested from three folks to include in the announcement (placeholders are in the draft): Mallory Knodel, Larry Kunz, and Priyanka Sharma
Please pardon if this is the first you are hearing about this. I had some problems getting mail to this list, so my messages from a week ago don't seem to have made it through. Also, I'm not sure if the work stream leaders have been able to meet on this topic, it started in the Language WS where we saw the opportunity to present v1.0 as part of Larry Kunz and Mallory Knodel's keynote, Making Tech — and the World — More Diverse, Equitable, and Inclusive:
(Videos are not yet posted.)
Thanks to the 11th hour work of Abubakar Ango, we made changes made to the website so the word lists are available in HTML (single-page), ODT (OpenDocument format), and JSON formats:
There are also links on each tier and word page to download subsets of the entire list, and a call-to-action button on the front page.
(Some technical work needs to be done still, help appreciated: making PDFs, sub-naming the subset files (i.e. adding tier or word to the filename), and automating the versioning process to make it easier to release a new version.)
For announcing this, we've been following a
release plan and now have a draft release announcement. It is awaiting reviews and approvals from the work stream leads. Ideally we can have a few quotes included that help readers (i.e., journalists, media readers) understand what and why this is important:
The plan is to release on a Tuesday for maximizing web traffic and attention. We are too late to do it today, perhaps 30 May instead?
Kind regards,
- Karsten
