Dear INI Community Members,
I'm Abubakar Siddiq Ango, Community Lead for the Inclusive Naming Initiative (INI). I'm pleased to provide updates on our progress and ways to get involved.
State of the Inclusive Naming Initiative
While activity has slowed in recent years, the CNCF is working to revitalize our focus on the core INI mandate: developing and disseminating the inclusive wordlists. I will be leading this effort and working with the Initiative’s leads to achieve this mandate.
A major milestone was the 2023 release of version 1 of the wordlist by the Language workstream, which received positive media coverage.
Prioritizing Asynchronous Collaboration
To enhance efficiency, we're prioritizing asynchronous collaboration tools:
GitHub Discussions: Our primary collaboration space
Slack: For quick communication
Email: Reserved for general community updates
Call for Collaboration
We invite your contributions to help organizations adopt inclusive language practices. In the coming weeks, we'll publish a handbook and contribution guide on the INI website. Do you have an idea or feedback? Please start a new discussion in our GitHub project
Office Hours
I'll host weekly office hours on Thursdays at 6pm UTC (8pm CEST, 2 pm Eastern, 11 am Pacific). Please join for discussions or to learn more. (See INI Calendar)
Community Updates
Expect 2-3 monthly email updates on INI activities and collaboration opportunities.
