Dear All,

This is to provide an update on the process towards the establishment of the National Education Board(NEB).

Yesterday(24th/7/2013) the Panel for the selection of suitable candidates for appointment as Chairperson or member of the National Education Board(NEB) began considering applications that were received for the positions. This follows the elapsing of the 21 days for submissions of applications from the public as provided for in the Basic Education Act 2013.  The Panel has 7 days to consider the applications and publish the names and academic qualifications of all shortlisted applicants in at least two daily newspapers of nationwide circulation in preparation for interviews.

Meanwhile, a stakeholders validation workshop on the National Education Sector Support programme (NESSP), was held at Maazoni Lodge Machakos between the 22nd and the 24th of July 2013. NESSP is a strategy to operationalise the Education Act No 14 of 2013 and the Sessional paper No 14 of 2012. The meeting was organised by the Government and funded by USAID. The meeting which was officially opened by the Cabinet Secretary of Education Professor Jacob Kaimenyi brought together participants from the Ministry, Donor Community and the Civil Society. Upon deliberations and input to the existing draft it was agreed by the stakeholders present that the document be subjected to a smaller group to refine it further and shared. the NESSP document shall be critical in accessing 8Om USD available for Kenya under the Global Partnership for Education(GPE) Grant and as indicated earlier a strategy to operationalize the Basic Education Act 2013 and the sessional paper No 14 of 2012.

We shall continue to update you on these critical processes.

Sincerely;
