Hallo,

Hope this mail finds you well

We are sharing the newsletter that the second team of ICS volunteers compiled, as one way to create awareness on Children with Disabilties.
Volunteers attached at teh schools, started/continued activities to empowere the children with economic skills, life skills and work towards improving their confidence.

The third cycle of volunteers who will be attached to the schools will work more in this sector, to create more awareness and advocate for the Children with special needs in teh community, schools and organzaitions. They will also have a team newsletter to include all their experiences at their other placements...to share work of the different organizations with the main office and our other partners.

Enjoy your reading!!!

Kind Regards

Majina

Subject: Volunteer Learning and Preparation of more Impact (Via 3rd Cycle)

Halo Placements,

Happy Easter Holidays!

I hope this email finds you well, and as we are all awaiting for the swearing in of our fourth president!

Many thanks for your feedback that i received via evaluation forms or via phone calls i made to some placements. We have taken into conideration all the feedback you gave even as we recruit the third cycle of volunteers.
Attached please find volunteer learnings. You may just scroll to the volunteers who were attached to your placement, but feel free to go though all their learnings to appreciate the role that placements, host homes and the community a whole contributed in their learning.

From my visits to placements, most placement supervisors ,said that challenges that all partners and volunteers go through in this programme, are building blocks to greater things. Most said the programme presents an opportunity 1. To contribute to making the young people be Global citizens 2. To share ideas and experiences with both National and International volunteers 3. To work together in bringing a differebnce in teh community in one way or the other 4. Extending the work of different Organizations to the community 5. Linking different organizations, to each other and to other partners for greater impact in the community

We really appreciate your partnerhip. We will be planning for a get together with all placements (Date to be confirmed on Wedneday, 3rd April), to discuss further the challenges, and how we can make the most from the third cycle, arriving on the 22nd April 2013. Part of the agenda will be the Point 3, 4 and 5 listed above, with our additional objective being to work with more youth from the local community.

Do let u know if we have other agendas you would love u to address at the get together!

Best Wishes

Majina Mwasezi

Subject: ICS Phase 2 - Early return

Hallo Placements,

Picking up from yesterdays email, it is definite that the volunteers will be returning to their communities on the 2nd March 2013.

The VSO Jitolee security team has stated that earlier this year, the Kenya National Commission on Human rights identified Nairobi, Kisumu, Kilifi, Uasin Gishu, Nakuru and Isiolo as potential hotspots ahead of the 4th March elections, hence the decision to send the vols back home early.

We realize that this is not ideal, as the team will not have fully completed their personal and placement objectives, and that is why we have the handover forms that the volunteers are working on (Your input will be of great importance), for a proper handover to the next cycle of volunteers.

It would be great if you could fill the evaluation forms attached by the 27th February 2013, so that we can prepare for the next cycle of volunteers early enough.

Do let us know, if you have any queries

Thank you for your continued partnership and support.

Best wishes

Majina

Subject: ICS Phase 2 - Vols travel back home

Good afternoon placements,

Hope this email finds you well.

From our last orientation meeting with placement supervisors/representatives in 14 December 2012, we shared that there was a possibility of sending the volunteers back home before the elections, depending on security updates and concern from our main office, VSO Jitolee Nairobi. We had also asked placements to set achievable objectives up to February, and update them if the programme would carry on to end of March.

There is a high possibility that we may have to send the volunteers back home by end of this month (February).

We will however CONFIRM this once our LINE MANAGER, coming down on THURSDAY, CONFIRMS.

The volunteers will leave handover notes for the next cycle, if there are projects or activities they started and are not be able to complete in-case they leave earlier. It would be great, if you could assist them document all that needs to be carried on by the next volunteers to ensure nothing is left pending.

Catherine and I will also carry out evaluations with placements, to know how to make the next cycle of this programme better.

Best wishes

Dear friends,

The death of Hon. Mutula Kilonzo is such a shock. But that is where we are all headed to. We can only hope that the good Lord grants him eternal rest. He was so passionate about disability issues and we have lost such a great ally. My deepest condolences to the family, and people of Kenya. But the struggle continues.

Here attached is a write up of an incident I encountered today. It is no different from many that are happening in our society hence calling upon us to give more effort in protecting the rights of children in general.

Please read. We all can do something to protect the child.

Regards

Saraha

Dear Saraha.

I hope this mail finds you well.
I read your brief with so much pain as to how rotten our community have become. I am willing to follow up if you could give me more details, such as did you find out the name of the School you mention? Who were the women you spoke to?

So sad about Mutula, I have no words, but his spirit will live on. May he rest in peace.

Felicity

Dear Felicity,

I am so happy to hear from you!

Most importantly that you are willing to follow up on the issue I shared.
I do not have details of the school or even the names of the teachers in this incident. The lady guard I spoke to at the gate could not give me any information either. But I have sent the same message I shared here to the email contact of Mt. View residents' association. I am waiting to hear from them. Through this association and Cobra Security (we can find out where their office is) we can be able to reach the school and find out who these women are.

I am happy to support the process because we need to make the world a better place for children.

Regards

Saraha

Dear Colleagues,
In memory of his support, I here attach a group photo I took during an advocacy meeting we had with Hon Mutula Kilonzo last year. May his soul rest in eternal peace
