Hi,

I upgraded to INCEpTION 30.3 from a much older version yesterday, and today I received a report from an annotator saying that about 10% of the time when he selects text to annotate he gets a popup with a message like "Categories   ID: 182 Error : Unable to load details" and a pink error bubble with a message like "Unable to load lazy details: Error in low-level CAS APId: accessing FS with ID 182, but no such FS exists in this CAS". The numbers are different every time. I am attaching a screenshot he sent me.

I don't understand enough about the architecture to understand these errors. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best Regards,

please go to the project settings and export the project so you have a backup.

The locate the CAS Doctor panel and run the checks there on the project.
It is likely that several inconsistencies are diagnosed.

Usually, you can run the pre-checked repairs on the CAS Doctor page without
risk. However, before you activate any of the non-default repairs, please
first refer to the checks and repairs documentation.

https://inception-project.github.io/releases/30.3/docs/user-guide.html#sect_checks
https://inception-project.github.io/releases/30.3/docs/user-guide.html#sect_repairs

If you still experience the errors once all problems reported by CAS Doctor have
been resolved, please let me know.

Cheers,

P.S.: it seems you might have forgotten to attach the screenshot - or the mailing list filtered it out

Thank you! It appears that all the errors were fixed.

We have a lot of completed projects which we keep in the application in case we need to modify the annotations in the future. Is there any reason I should run checks on those projects?

Best Regards,
Jonathan

P.S. I probably forgot to attach the screenshot. Here is it.

If you have found problems in one project, it is reasonable to check the others as well.
In particular if you have externally generated annotated data that you have then imported
into INCEpTION, it is a good idea to run CAS Doctor - maybe you find bugs in the code
that generated the your data.

Thanks Richard.

Annotators are still reporting the same type of errors. Apparently it happens about 10% of the time when they begin to annotate a previously untouched document, as soon as they attempt to select text. The projects we are working on now were created before I upgraded INCEpTION, but annotation didn't begin until after the upgrade.

I am attaching a screenshot sent to me by one of the annotators, a screenshot of the CAS Doctor for the same file, and the raw source document. The document was created using the Python library webanno_tsv. We used this library successfully for almost 2 years, but didn't see any issues until the upgrade. Can you see any problems with the document that could lead to errors of this type?

Best Regards

Those lazy-detail issues on first sight appear to probably boil down to a bug in INCEpTION rather than inconsistencies in the data - but we will have to see to know.

Could you please open a bug report issue here:

https://github.com/inception-project/inception/issues/new/choose

Please include in the report a copy of the part of the INCEpTION log that contains the stack trace for the "Unable to load lazy details" exception which shows us where in the code this
problem occurs. Hopefully that will help to diagnose the issue.

You are still using INCEpTION 30.3. The latest bugfix version in the v30.x line is 30.4.

Also, we have INCEpTION 31 since yesterday. If you do not want to upgrade to v31 yet, I would
recommend to at least update to 30.4 to get the last bugfixes for that line.

Cheers,
