Hi,
I had an old version of Inception and downloaded the new version (29.5). They were both working fine, so I deleted the old one. However, a day later, Inception refused to work and displayed the error message attached. I spent 8 hours trying to fix it, but couldn't. I took my computer to the IT support center at my university. They and I tried many things, but nothing worked. We attempted to reinstall the app, used the terminal to install it, looked for any other instances of Inception that might be causing the error on my computer, and restarted my computer, but nothing seemed to work. Is there anyone who can help me with this?

Hi,

I'm sorry you are having trouble starting INCEpTION.

- Open a command line terminal
- In the terminal, go to the folder in which the `inception-app-webapp-29.5-standalone.jar` file is located
- run `java -DforceReleaseLock=true -jar inception-app-webapp-29.6-SNAPSHOT-standalone.jar`
- wait until INCEpTION has finished starting up
- shut down INCEpTION again

Now, starting INCEpTION normally e.g. via double-clicking the icon in Finder should work again.

Btw. once your INCEpTION is up and running again, take care to export your annotation projects as backup archives from the settings panel of the respective project.
Do these backups regularly in case something bad happens and you lose access to your data.

Cheers,

-- Richard
