Government of India and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) are pleased to announce nomination call for these awards. The awards of INR 100,000 and citations will be given to outstanding cases of biodiversity management that have been in existence for at least 5 years in the four categories given below.

1.    Community stewardship - Community-led biodiversity management by

autonomous community institutions

2.    Decentralized governance - Biodiversity management by local

self-governments and local level statutory institutions

3.    Co-management - Biodiversity management by Joint Forest Management

Committees, Eco-development Committees and similar Government-supported community institutions

4.    Protected Areas - Effective and innovative management practices by

management agencies of Protected Areas

 

The awards will be presented during the 11th Conference of Parties (CoP11) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), which will be held in October 2012 in Hyderabad.

 

The last date for receiving nominations is 10th June, 2012.

To my sincere assessment and view, Dr. V.B.Ramana Murthy, who volunteered and took all initiative to upgrade the awareness level on biodiversity protection in India,deserves to be nominated for the India Biodiversity Award in the Community Stewardship category.To my knowledge, he has caused to sensitize community initiative to large section of human population in Indian subcontinent. I propose his nomination through this circulation, whoever is authorized to nominate him.

I am extremely sorry for my open statement. I don't know any body on working on bio-diversity net wrok, as Dr. Murty. To me Dr. V. Ramana Murty out of turn, visited the North East India and tried his best to sensitize people, who were sleeping then. North east India is a great hot spot on bio-diversity. Latest news, the Govt of India so also Govt. of Assam/ Mizoram have arose and taken up the protection of bio-diversity issue with neighboring countries like Bangladesh and Myanmar. So definitely credit goes to person who came, visited, call people, visited homes after homes, to sensitize the region. So my frank opinion/ spontaneous expression should not  be misunderstood by any body. I am sorry and do apologize. With regards to all.

 I am working from last 15 years on the conservation of endangered wildlife in the Bhutan_himalayan foothill areas of Assam (Northern part of west Assam). My recent action includes community based conservation activities for conservation of Golden langur in the region and has successfully carried out survey on the status of endangered white bellied heron in Assam. I too involved with other initiatives taken/ designed by our organization “Nature’s Foster” on the community based conservation of wildlife in the region. I have been long experience working in this area on various aspects of biodiversity related issues.
