I didn't see anything in your docs about IDLE support for IMAP. I believe MS Active Sync has an equivilant protocol. Is this real-time type of sync on the roadmap?

Really excited about what you guys are doing.

Yep, we use both IDLE and Exchange Ping (the equivalent) if they are supported. Otherwise we fall back to polling.

We're also planning to offer a websockets-type API for real-time syncing for Inbox API clients. (Which I think was another part of the question here.)

We should probably make a public roadmap.

This would be amazing – especially if it the client-end was nicely packaged in your SDKs as well.

Regarding the roadmap, it would be interesting to see. As a potential customer, I could also understand if you wanted to keep that behind closed doors. I'll take an active support community over a public roadmap!

Can't want to see where you guys go from here!

Cool, thanks for the feedback. We'll definitely do our best to be responsive on the list and on IRC. :)

A roadmap would be interesting. From what I see not only is the server response discarded while idle, but responses are cherry-picked instead of processed as a whole; the server may send untagged responses to any command. It appears that the IDLE connection is also tied up for the duration of the timeout you set (assuming no response for the server) instead of being reused when appropriate for other actions. (Also, per the RFC you should be ending/re-issuing the IDLE at least every 29 minutes)

Good luck,

We only have iOS & JavaScript SDKs currently, but stay tuned - we plan to release one for Android too.
