I visited The Crossing once, the day Phyllis Tickle spoke. And I keep
up-to-date with Crossing happenings via the e-newsletter. (Thanks
Steph.)

My wife begins her masters at Tufts in the fall, and we'd like to move
closer (now in Conn.). Any leads? My interests: community development,
racial justice, youth development, civic engagement, reconciliation
work, theology, human rights, ending human trafficking, community
organizing, non-partisan work, sustainable development.

I've been a finalist for a position at Small Planet Institute
(Cambridge) and Human Rights Education Associates (Concord), and I'm
applying to a position at the School of Theology at BU, as well as
YouthBuild.

We're not too familiar with Boston or the outlying towns, but we're
looking for affordable :) and good for young kids (ages 5 and 2) ...
and not too far from Tufts. We need at least a 2 bedroom, but
preferably a 3 BR. Any suggestions or leads?

Hi, Nick. I'm not sure if we met, but if you were at the Crossing the
night Phillis Tickle came, I was the tweed-wearer who led the
reflection.

I don't have any specific leads, but I would like to suggest Jamaica
Plain as a potential area for you.

If you're not familiar with JP, it is on the Orange Line of the T.
This means it would require a line switch if you will be traveling by
public transit not a car to Tufts, which may not be the best thing.

However, JP is an excellent neighborhood. I find it to be a more
conscientious community than I expected to find. There are tons of
not-for-profits and local businesses. The neighborhood has a strong
sense of its own identiy and actively safeguards it. It is very
diverse and many people in the area strive to maintain the diversity
and to tackle problems that arise. There are many community groups
and events, and it is a good area for people with children and people
with dogs, which are both rarities in Boston, I find. There are a lot
of affordable, large houses in JP.

I'm sure you'll get much more and likely better advice from other
Crossing members. But be aware of JP! There's lots of goodness to be
found here.

Blessings to you and your family as you relocate,
Jenna Tucker
