Kia ora Inaturalist!

My wife Kate and I have spent our honeymoon this year in New Zealand and were swept away by the beauty, wonders, sites, flora and fauna that this beautiful country is lucky to have.

We have heard an interesting bird call that we can't get out of our heads ever since. It was so enchanting, funny and mystic at the same time. Please assist us in identifying the bird. Here is some information that might help:

Location of bird song:
990 Trounson Park Road, 0379 Donnellys Crossing, New-Zealand
Date:
28th-29th of January 2018
Bird call description:
There were only two distinct notes. One high note, then a 3-4 second silence, then 2 octave lower note. Nothing else. The bird repeated it about every 15-20 seconds.

I have gone through the archive of native NZ birds calls twice, but this is the closest I got, but still not the exact one:
https://www.doc.govt.nz/Documents/conservation/native-animals/birds/bird-song/kokako-song.mp3

Please help me in identifying this little wonder of nature.
Should any questions come up or suggestions, ideas arise, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Have a fantastic week!

Kind regards,

Zoltan

Hi Zoltan

Sounds like you had an excellent time here in Aotearoa. Pretty difficult to identify a bird call from a description but someone else reading this may be able to help - have you tried the ones at http://www.nzbirds.com/birds/birdsong.html ?
