I run a coyote reporting project on iNaturalist and some users have accidentally posted observations to just their profile rather than my project page. How can I go about adding their observation to my reporting page? I have tried selecting "add to project" however when it does not show up on the project place once I have done so.

Thank you!

Each observation has an Add to Project button that you can use to add other peoples observations to different projects. e.g. on http://www.inaturalist.org/observations/3959476 :

If thats what you're trying to do and its not working, can you provide URLs and Screenshots of a specific observation that you can't get added to a specific project so we can help you troubleshoot?

Thanks,

Scott

Thanks, Scott. It allows me to do that, but when I go back to my project page the number of observations has not increased.

Check again later. It can take time for the statistics to update.

I'll continue to check - but I tried to add one to the project yesterday and it never appeared. Here is an example of one that I have been trying to add:

worked for me http://www.inaturalist.org/observations/3698624 - but I'm making alot of assumptions on what you're trying to do, because you're not providing the information I'd need to help you troubleshoot. I hate to beat a dead horse, but if you need help please be very explicit with URLs and screenshots on what you're trying to do (e.g. I'm trying to add this observation http://www.inaturalist.org/observations/3698624 to this project http://www.inaturalist.org/projects/milwaukee-county-parks-urban-wildlife-inventory and the specific steps I'm taking are...), how you're trying to do it (remember there are multiple ways to do most things on iNat) and whats not working as you expect

Best,

Scott

Scott,

I sincerely apologize for not being more thorough. I greatly appreciate your patience and assistance with this.

I am trying to add this observation http://www.inaturalist.org/observations/3698624 to this project http://www.inaturalist.org/projects/milwaukee-county-coyote-watch. I select "add to project", followed by add to "Milwaukee County Coyote Watch". After I fill out the fields I submit the addition, but the observation does not appear on the Milwaukee County Coyote Watch page as it did when you added it to the Milwaukee County Urban Wildlife Inventory.

Strange...I just logged into iNat through my PERSONAL account and tried adding the observation to the project and it worked, but when I try to add observations when logged in as the project administrator for the Coyote Watch Page it doesn't work.

Do you find that if you try adding an observation to the project and fill out all the requested fields, that the fields get set correctly but it doesn't end up in the project?  And then if you try adding it to the project a second time (now that all the fields are filled in), that does get added ok?  (you will have to refresh the observation in the browser or it will not offer you the ability to add it a second time)

Tony - yes, I have the same experience regularly (which seems to be a recent change - eg. the last few weeks or so).

If folks are seeing a reproducible bug, please describe the steps to replicate it so I can try to reproduce and make a ticket

Hi Scott,

I think this is the problem as described in https://github.com/inaturalist/inaturalist/issues/964.  Basically caused by having a project rule requiring a field be present and a "required" attribute for that field too.   It appears that somewhere along the line of updates to the system, entering a field as 'required' also silently adds a 'rule' demanding the field be present too.  So if the field isn't already present when you select the 'add to project' it doesn't get added even if you enter the fields at that point.  But the fields do get added, so the next time you (or someone else) adds the project to that observation, it works ok.

So the bug is that the system adds the additional 'rule' in the case of 'required fields'.  Note that this isn't apparent until you save the project, then come back and edit it again, where upon the additional 'rule' can be seen.

The work around is to remove the 'rule' for that field from the project, and only leave the field as 'required'.
