Google Groups seems a bit weird too. Why should I have to have so
many different accounts to use the site? flickr, gmail, ? Why?
Unfortunately, you can't play videos from Flickr on iNat right now,
but people viewing your observation can click through to Flickr to
view it there. I'm guessing we could probably make it possible to
view videos on iNat if people think it's important. I'll look into
it, but in the meantime, anyone else want this feature?
Regarding having to sign up for different things, we generally try to
use existing functionality whenever we can, so rather than building a
completely new photo management system, we use Flickr, and instead of
building our own discussion board and mailing list, we use Google.
Those of us who maintain iNat work on it in our spare time for fun, so
we figure medium to large companies employing 100s to 1000s of the
world's best software engineers will probably be able to turn out
better photo management systems and discussion boards than 2 or 3 guys
dabbling on the weekends can. Instead, we focus on areas that other
sites don't, like providing tools to manage observations and lists of
any taxon, and keeping track of what your friends are seeing in the
field.
Hope that helps explain things. Please let us know if you have any
more requests, suggestions, or problems with the site.

PS. Speaking of other sites, we also occasionally post updates about
new features or other topics to Twitter
(http://twitter.com/inaturalist) and Facebook
(http://www.facebook.com/pages/iNaturalistorg/63336575498), if you
happen to use either of those services.
