Ongoing bulk uploader glitches

After making several reports on this forum, I continue to experience glitches with the bulk uploader. Here is a list:

1) Species not adding to projects: I go through the usual protocol, allocating multiple species to a project en masse (as I have many times before), and one or two will often fail to add on uploading.

2) Duplicate observations generated. This problem is related to the above. I am not sure whether it is due to subsequent attempts to add these observations, or to latency on initial attempts at uploading, but I often end up with duplicate observations posted through the Bulk Upload tool, after some latency in adding them.

3) I will often add multiple files from a directory and then sort everything out, deleting some photos. However, it seems like the uploader doesn't register that I have deleted certain files and when I go to upload it will often queue more images than I actually uploaded. So say after beginning with a batch of photosI delete a few photos so that there are only three observations remaining with one photo each (for a total of three photos in queue): when I hit 'Submit', the number of photos queued appears to reflect the initial set of photos I added, before deleting anything.

4) Lately, I will get queues much longer than the photos I added (after deleting some from the photos initially added from a directory), and the process seems to time out. The photos aren't adding at all.

For example, it says "Uploading 1 of 6 photos" though I only added 3 photos. Ultimately it times out and doesn't upload the observations.

Sorry if this is unhelpful, but if it's something urgent or recurrent and you aren't getting a quick response on here, sometimes it's better to email he...@inaturalist.org . you may have already tried that but just wanted to throw it out as another option.

Hi Charlie,

Thanks for your feedback. The issues haven't been so troubling, only a minor frustration. I just thought I'd list them here, to see if anyone else is experiencing the same thing. As nobody else seems to be experiencing them I am not sure whether it is worthwhile pursuing it further?

i have seen posts from other people with similar issues, actually, though i haven't followed it closely since i don't use the bulk uploader that much.

Other users have been experiencing issues with the web uploader and we're working on possible fixes for this and have them available on a test server. More info on how to test them is in this thread: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/inaturalist/7vco6hdDXOY If you could please try that out and give us feedback at that thread we would appreciate it, and we apologize for the uploader issues you have been experiencing.
