The first release of iNaturalist is ready! We're inviting you and a small
group of others to try out this early version of iNaturalist because we value
your opinion. Head on over to http://www.inaturalist.org and check it out.
The site is still a bit limited, but you can add observations of mammals,
birds, reptiles, and amphibians, explore all the observations in the system,
and check on your life list. If you have a Flickr account, you can link it to
your iNaturalist account so you can include your Flickr photos with your
observations. Soon we'll be adding support for other kinds of organisms, the
creation of new life lists (like a birds-only life list), and social features
like friends and groups.
Right now what we need most is feedback! Sign up for an account, add some
observations, and post messages in our Google Group
(http://groups.google.com/group/inaturalist/, or inatu...@googlegroups.com)
to discuss your impressions. Let us know what's working, what isn't, and what
YOU want the most out of the site. We can only guarantee that the site works
in Firefox right now, but if you find a bug in another browser, we'd like to
hear about that too.
Thanks for supporting iNaturalist! Let's hope this is the start of a long and
fruitful existence!
-Ken-ichi & the iNaturalist Team
PS. Please join our Google Group if you haven't already so you'll
receive updates, announcements, and be able participate in discussions
about the site. Here's the link:
http://groups.google.com/group/inaturalist/.
It means that you authorize iNaturalist to connect to your Flickr
account, so you can select photos of yours to associate with your
observations. We DO NOT get access to your password, if that's your
concern. You can read more about third-party Flickr access here:
