Hey,

I've tried to upload several photos using the android app (Add
Observation->Add Photo->Save->Sync) but the photos don't seem to show
up on the site. What's the deal? I have a HTC Rezound.

That's pretty weird. Are you seeing any error messages? If you can
provide the URL of one of your observations that you were able to post
but the photo didn't make it through that would help. Also the approx
date/time when you tried to post the photo.

All of the photos I have uploaded with the android app fail to show up
on the site despite the app saying it is syncing. The geotagged
locations appear correct, but the photos don't show up. It doesn't
give me any error. I've tried on several occasions over the last
month. So, any of these observations: http://www.inaturalist.org/observations/joaaelst

I've tried replicating your problem with a similar Android version,
but it seems to work for me, so I'm guessing there's something weird
about our app running on your particular device. Do you think you
could try creating and syncing a new observation with a photo today
and let me know about the time you did so? Emailing me off-list with
a copy of the photo you tried to sync might tell me something too.
Beyond that the only thing I can recommend is re-installing the app
and seeing if that has any effect.

I know that's not particularly helpful, but we don't have the
resources to test on a wide array of devices. I can emulate different
Android versions, but there always seem to be hardware-specific
quirks.

Ken-ichi-

re-installing the app seems to have solved the issue!

Thanks!

Ooop, I guess I spoke too soon. I just tried to sync 30 observations from my phone. They are not on the website; my phone says, paraphrasing, " photo sync complete, 0 photos uploaded"; the photos, thankfully are still available via the inat app for my phone. Very frustrating. I have Scott's email, but I don't have yours.

I feel your pain, but I still can't replicated this. It's possible
that the Android app isn't handling timeout errors very well. Are you
syncing over WiFi or 3G?

One way you can provide me with more info is by installing a log
reading app like

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nolanlawson.logcat&hl=en

If you use that to search your logs for "inat" and email me the result
I may be able to work on this further. You can email me at
ku...@inaturalist.org. You can also use he...@inaturalist.org. You may
need to start the logging app and then try to sync new data to get
useful info, not sure if it reads existing logs or just records data
from running apps.

OK thanks Ken-ichi,

I have since been able to uploaded the photos (over 3g) after restarting my phone....  I'll install the log reading app.

Thanks!
